UNESCO has undertaken the publication of a book highlighting the struggle of African women to liberate the continent from the colonial yoke and to affirm the values of Pan-Africanism. The actions of these women, many and often little known, testify to the commitment of women to assume their roles and responsibilities in the future of the continent.

Designed under the general coordination of the Africa Department of UNESCO, it first includes a study on the evolution of Pan-Africanism through the paths of emblematic figures of African women. This publication aims to contribute to the information of the greatest number, especially young people, on the role of African women in the liberation and development of the continent. It also proposes, in an educational approach, to provide some benchmarks on the components and the impregnation of Pan-Africanism and its enrichment by the contribution of the continent’s women to freedom – theirs and that of all Africans …
