Since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel, tens of thousands of Africans have demonstrated in support of the Palestinian people.
Trade unionists, representatives of civil society, political activists, lawyers and high school students demonstrated their support for the Palestinians in the center of Tunis. In Algeria, nearly 2,000 people took to the streets to express their solidarity with the Palestinians. Moroccans also marched this weekend, in many cities in their country, in support of the Palestinians demanding that the kingdom’s rapprochement with Israel be stopped. In Libya too, pro-Palestinian demonstrators crossed Tripoli, calling for an end to war crimes.
At the call of a pro-Palestinian movement (BDS), hundreds of South Africans also organized a rally in front of the American consulate in Johannesburg. This movement is known for its calls to boycott products from Israel. Since the start of the Israeli offensive in Gaza, South Africa has openly supported Palestine. Some South Africans remember the collaboration, a few years ago, between Israel and the apartheid regime according to Africanews.
UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, while expressing his concern about this war whose human toll continues to increase, requested humanitarian access to Gaza and also the release of all Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
