Since 2015, Burkina Faso has been plagued by terrorist attacks that have claimed many victims and more than 1.9 million internally displaced people. Terrorist attacks in this country have even multiplied in recent months, targeting civilians and soldiers alike.
Recently, simultaneous attacks by jihadists in northern Burkina Faso killed nine civilian army auxiliaries and three soldiers. According to a security source, armed men attacked the military detachment of the rural commune of Bourzanga, in the Center-North region, then the positions of the VDP (Volunteers for the defense of the homeland, auxiliaries) in the localities of Alga and Boulounga located in the same commune, killing a total of 12 people.
In Burkina Faso, soldiers overthrew President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, having taken power at the end of January. This country is regularly confronted with the violence of armed terrorist movements affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the EI group. Terrorist attacks have even multiplied in recent months, targeting civilians and soldiers alike. By June, 86 civilians had been massacred by terrorists, one of the worst killings in the country’s history. At present a considerable part of the territory is outside the control of the State.

This country is experiencing the largest wave of displacement of people due to terrorism in the Sahel, said Laurent Saugy, head of delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Burkina Faso (ICRC), specifying that three out of four displaced people in the Sahel are in Burkina Faso.
