Sudan : 26 million people are facing acute hunger

Two top United Nations humanitarian officials on Tuesday called on the Security Council to use its influence to secure a cessation of hostilities to prevent the famine from spreading.

With famine declared last week in parts of Darfur, Sudan, the UN says a cessation of hostilities is the only lasting solution that will prevent the famine from spreading.
