According to António Guterres, the war in Ukraine is aggravating the food, financial and energy crises in Africa. This is driving up global food and fuel prices and pushing more people to the brink of starvation in parts of Africa.
UN Secretary General António Guterres has started an African tour of Senegal, Niger and Nigeria. In these three African countries, he will meet senior officials and representatives of civil society. He will also have appointments with women, youth groups and religious leaders.
António Guterres will also meet families affected by violence and instability in the Sahel and see firsthand the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities and the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
