Five days after the capture of the regional capital Mekele by the Tigray Defense Forces, the international community is concerned about the dire humanitarian situation there. More than 400,000 people are facing famine, and an additional 1.8 million people are on the brink of famine, according to the UN.

Some suggest the numbers are even higher, 33,000 children are severely malnourished, « UN Acting Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Mr. Ramesh Rajasingham has warned.
