To overcome Africa’s complex challenges, strengthened cooperation between the UN, local actors, and international partners is more essential than ever.

Africa, rich in cultural diversity but facing numerous challenges, benefits from the support of the United Nations (UN), which plays a crucial role in resolving crises and promoting sustainable development. Through unique international cooperation, the UN deploys solutions tailored to the community, national, and regional levels.

Peacekeeping missions in Africa demonstrate the UN’s ongoing commitment. Currently, five peacekeeping missions are deployed on the continent, including in the Central African Republic, Western Sahara, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the contested Abyei region. These missions aim to stabilize crisis-affected areas while supporting political processes and protecting human rights.

Despite progress, Africa faces significant challenges that require a coordinated response. One of the major issues is climate change, with the continent being particularly vulnerable to its effects. Rising temperatures, droughts, and floods are impacting ecosystems and livelihoods, especially in agriculture. While many African countries are investing in adaptation strategies, the costs remain high, and the most vulnerable populations continue to suffer devastating consequences.
