War in Ukraine: More than half of Ukrainian children are displaced
According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), 78 children have been killed and 105 have been injured in Ukraine since the start of the war on February 24.
Because of the Ukrainian war, many families have to leave their homes behind in search of a safe place. In total, ten million people, or about a quarter of the population, have been forced to move. According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), a month of war led to the displacement of 4.3 million children, more than half of the country’s child population.
This figure also includes more than 1.8 million refugee children who have crossed international borders into exile in neighboring countries and 2.5 million who are now displaced within Ukraine.
According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), 78 children have been killed and 105 have been injured in Ukraine since the start of the war on February 24.
These population movements are a grim step that could have lasting consequences for generations to come, according to UNICEF.
